Now the storyline arrived at the end of the summer. The calm sea slowly gets wilder. We reach the month Ikuwa, you know what it means…
Today I wrote the scenes about the kapu system in ancient Hawai´i. The scenes are filled with surfscenes placed in the past. I guess we need lots of replica boards for this scenes, also surfclothes. Maybe its an idea designing new surffashion.
In my imagination it will be wonderful bringing the spectators back in ancient times, in an enviroment without streets, without skyscrapers and modern tools. Just pure Hawai´, like it was a few hundred years ago.
These scenes will show how the kapu system is working, shows the society system in old Hawai´i, historical facts and ancient law´s and rules.
Today I talked to Wolfgang about the way how this movie should be filmed. I guess we discovered some nice ideas how we want to shoot the movie in the technical way. And we found out that this is a project not only for an production company. It will be so important that the spirit of the peoples I write about must find a way into this project.
Its not about just making a movie. Its also about telling a story about places on Earth which are for the most people the perfect paradies. But its so much more than just beautiful places, its about humans, about so many spectaculars discovers and development, about nature and so many special people. People the settled in an area which is so large, and how it seems, they never feared of anything. They did it. And this is great.
Its just time to tell the historical performance of the ancient settlers of the pacific.
Mahalo and have an good surf…

Writing was easy today. Even with a problem I had. The story is in a more telling phase now, which means that a lot of historic facts came in and we are not much in the fluid element. Now the get all things together to shape the oloboard, except broken corals.
So the family takes a snorkeling trip with their friends and Keonis schoolmates on a calm afternoon. They dive down, watching fish and turtles pasing by and collecting some broken corals and having lots of fun.
Because the story shall also show modern Hawaii and its artist I rememberd an musicartist I met when I took my first trip to the islands. I can´t tell his name because I did not talk to him yet. But he is still their, I always receive his newsletters and I am sure if we realize this project he will be with us.
Just a short step away. The musicscore is very important for me in this story. I hope I get the permission using music from Iz and some other of the great hawai´ian singers and composer.
Ok, back now…
To bring the shaping of the Oloboard in an well timed scene, the idea is showing the shaping scene with an duett of Iz and music of this great singer I know. It also will symbols the past and the presence, todays people using an ancient, but not forgotten way of creating and the music will be an mixture of not forgotton Iz and a living artist of these days.
This will be the last big scene before the story is reaching the third periode of Keonis life, when we jumo into the future where Keoni will ab 12 or 13 years old. And I guess we surf into this new age.
So, I hope I could explain it right, I am a bit tired so I hope my english writing is not too confusing.
Mahalo to all and give your friends a smile when the do not expect it…

It was a long writing day today.
Todays scenes were about the third long travelperiodeof the polynesians from Nuku Hiva to the Islands of Hawaii. Kalani is telling the story sitting on the beach with family and friends. During the telling we see the journey of the travellers and the arrival on Hawai´i.
Its amazing what this ancient polynesian did such a long time ago. And its sad that so less people in the northern hemisphere know about.
During writing I am not looking how long a movie will be. Espacially with this script I dont wanna miss one thing. And the history of the people of the Pacific and the hawai`ians deserve it. I guess it will be a long movie and I know it won´t be boring for a second. I also never wrote a story which is so diffucult to write. Bringing all the historical facts into an movie which also has dramaturgy is a challenge.
Because I get close to the scenes when James Cook arrives, I ask myself where I get replicas of the old sailing ships. Can you imagine two old sailingships running into the Waimea Bay again? What a picture in my mind.

The last days I spend all my time to research some ancient facts about board shaping in the history.
I found some interesting facts about it. Now I have to bring it into the story
)) So the next scenes I will start tomorrow.
Its very interesting how the shaped this boards. It took a long time. Total different to our modern times where when a board is crashing we just step into the next shop and get a new one.
And this point will also flow into the story, That a surfboard is not only a surfboard, its made by an master for an certain surfer and the surfer have to trust this board. I guess its important to be open for the friendship between Surfer and Surfboard. it´s the connection to the water and for many surfers not only a sportstool.
Mahalo nui loa for spending your time reading my thoughts…
Armin
The story is now about 2/3 finished. Like a swell its going on now quiered. Scenes about learning, history, shaping a Olo board with original materials and tools. Just like the shapers did it in ancient times.
Up comes a visual presentation of the kumulipo, visualized directly out of the kids phantasy, narrated by Koni, an wise old lady. Some people thinks she actually is Pele who is visiting kids and people of Hawaii which believe in their strong tradition again…
Hope youre doing well and everything is fine…
Greetings from Munich

. . . Experience the Breath of Life . . . the feature film about the history of surfing & the Polynesian Culture of the Wayfarers and Waterman by © Armin Kraft …
are the stories of an ancient culture, of pure curiosity, the people behind them, the desire to create something impossible, the pleasure riding waves. This story, which began seventhousand years ago, leads us from the ancient islands of Indonesia into the world of water, called the Pacific. It tells the history of wave riding, the long journeys of the first residents from Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia, a long time before the old world of Europe even sailed away from the coastlines.
In ancient times where Egypt raises to his highest cultural level, where Hammurabi established the first lawbook in history of mankind in Babylon, the waterman sailed the open ocean, discovered 10000 Islands and never did forget the fun. To live with the ocean, live in the ocean, always respecting this wonderul enviroment, they developed long time ago the way riding a wave.
Until today it is pure fun to become one with the energy of our nature, leaving all the problems behind. From the first surfers a long time ago to Hawaii where surfing becomes the sport of kings.
Represented by a small boy named Keona we will tell this epic story. In the beginning of the story he is about one year old, we accompany its development, his growing, learning and doing, his search for all the unknown things, we see his early love to the sea, his Parents who accompany and support his way to the young man who is living his own life and learning that its never to late to fullfill an deep dream. In his timeline we will tell the history of surfing, also from the beginnig until present day. From the first canoe which heads into the east to the men who are riding the biggest waves, to find this one moment where they reach the moment, how it is to experience the breath of life.
